Visitors can select museum collections based on their personal intentions and available time. By choosing what they want to experience, they are able to create and curate their own collections and share them with others. Through this process, visitors engage in an independent and self-directed journey within the physical exhibition space, supported by the digital guide Jack’s Compass.
Jack’s Compass is designed to strengthen the relationship between visitors and exhibitions through intuitive and unobtrusive interaction. At the same time, it reduces the physical and cognitive fatigue often associated with long museum visits. Instead of following a fixed exhibition route, visitors are encouraged to actively navigate the museum and experience exhibitions at their own pace by building personalized collections.
방문객은 자신의 관람 목적과 남은 시간에 맞춰 뮤지엄 컬렉션을 선택할 수 있습니다. 무엇을 경험할지 직접 고르는 방식으로, 스스로의 컬렉션을 만들고 큐레이션하며 다른 사람들과 공유할 수 있습니다. 이 과정을 통해 방문객은 디지털 가이드 Jack’s Compass의 지원을 받으며, 물리적 전시 공간 안에서 독립적이고 자기주도적인 여정을 수행합니다.
Jack’s Compass는 직관적이고 방해가 적은 상호작용을 통해 방문객과 전시 사이의 관계를 강화하도록 설계되었습니다. 동시에, 긴 박물관 관람에서 흔히 발생하는 신체적·인지적 피로를 줄여줍니다. 고정된 관람 동선을 따라가기보다, 방문객이 스스로 박물관을 탐색하고 개인화된 컬렉션을 구축하면서 자신의 속도에 맞춰 전시를 경험하도록 유도합니다.

Chris, a student majoring in architecture, meets a friend at the Leeum museum entrance.

Chris takes a moment to appreciate the atmosphere of the lobby before purchasing tickets.

S#3. INT_Lending Diigital Guide _13:57
Chris borrows the digital guide, Jack’s Compass, from the lending booth. When the device is activated, a brief tutorial is delivered through sound cues and guiding lights, explaining how to use the system.
Chris는 대여 부스에서 디지털 가이드 Jack’s Compass를 빌린다. 기기를 활성화하면 짧은 튜토리얼이 사운드 큐와 안내 조명으로 제공되어 시스템 사용법을 설명한다.

Because they have already booked a movie, Chris and his friend select one of the preset collections titled “I’m in a Hurry.” The digital guide then provides an optimized route based on their selection.
이미 영화 예매가 되어 있어 시간이 촉박한 Chris와 친구는 “I’m in a Hurry”라는 프리셋 컬렉션 중 하나를 선택한다. 디지털 가이드는 선택 결과를 바탕으로 최적화된 동선을 제공한다.
S#5. INT_Exhibit Hall (Museum 1)_14:05~14:35
As visitors approach artworks, contextual information appears on the display of the digital guide. This includes how many visitors have added the artwork to their collection and the average viewing duration. Visitors can select artworks and add them to their personal collection, allowing them to curate and later share their own exhibition experience.
방문객이 작품에 가까이 다가가면 디지털 가이드의 디스플레이에 맥락 정보가 표시된다. 여기에는 해당 작품을 컬렉션에 추가한 방문객 수와 평균 관람 시간이 포함된다. 방문객은 원하는 작품을 선택해 개인 컬렉션에 담을 수 있으며, 이를 통해 자신의 전시 경험을 큐레이션하고 나중에 공유할 수 있다.
S#6. INT_Lobby (to Museum 2)_14:40
Before moving on to Museum 2, they take a short break and review the bookmarked artworks stored in their collection.
뮤지엄 2로 이동하기 전, 잠시 휴식을 취하며 컬렉션에 저장해 둔 북마크 작품들을 확인한다.
S#7. INT_Exhibit Hall (Museum 2)_14:42~15:10
Each artwork is equipped with an alarm sensor designed to prevent visitors from getting too close. However, audible alarms can interrupt the viewing experience.
Jack’s Compass addresses this issue by replacing intrusive alarm sounds with subtle vibration, light, and sound feedback that affects only the individual visitor who crosses the boundary.
각 작품에는 방문객이 지나치게 가까이 접근하지 못하도록 하는 알람 센서가 설치되어 있다. 그러나 큰 경고음은 관람 흐름을 끊고 몰입을 방해할 수 있다.
Jack’s Compass는 이 문제를 해결하기 위해, 경계선을 넘은 개인 방문객에게만 전달되는 미세한 진동·조명·사운드 피드백으로 알람을 대체한다.
S#8. INT_Leeum CAFÉ_15:13
Visitors with limited time can access additional information about selected artworks through an information-searching service available at the Leeum Café, without remaining in the exhibition halls.
시간이 제한된 방문객은 전시장에 머무르지 않아도, 리움 카페에서 제공되는 정보 검색 서비스를 통해 선택한 작품의 추가 정보를 확인할 수 있다.
S#9. INT_Returning Digital Guide_15:25
After completing their visit, Chris and his friend return the digital guides at the restoration booth.
관람을 마친 뒤, Chris와 친구는 반납 부스에 디지털 가이드를 반납한다.

Artworks excluded from the “I’m in a Hurry” collection are saved and can be explored during their next visit.

Device Description
The digital guide features a circular transparent display, a form well suited for navigational guidance similar to a compass. The display also enables precise targeting of selected artworks, drawing inspiration from HUD interfaces used in aviation.
이 디지털 가이드는 원형의 투명 디스플레이를 특징으로 하며, 나침반과 유사한 방식의 내비게이션 안내에 적합한 형태를 갖는다. 또한 항공 분야에서 사용되는 HUD 인터페이스에서 영감을 받아, 선택한 작품을 정밀하게 타기팅할 수 있도록 한다.
An LED gauge visualizes the progress of the selected collection among various available guide options. For data transfer and audio content delivery, the device is equipped with a micro-USB connector, allowing for simple maintenance and system updates.
LED 게이지는 다양한 가이드 옵션 중에서 선택한 컬렉션의 진행 상황을 시각화한다. 데이터 전송과 오디오 콘텐츠 제공을 위해 마이크로 USB 커넥터를 적용하여, 유지보수 및 시스템 업데이트를 간단하게 수행할 수 있다.
